We don’t need more communication in projects…

We don’t need more communication in projects…
…we need more effective communication.  Here’s how NLP for project managers can help.  Have you noticed that after every project review we seem to write ‘more communication’ on the flip chart?  But aren’t you deluged on a daily basis with too many emails, often with big copy distributions?  Most people don’t respond to email, either physically or emotionally, especially for technology enabled change.  We need to engage with key stakeholders in a more personal way in line with their preferred communication channel, aligned to their view of the world, not ours.  Do you know how your key stakeholders like to be communicated too, how they view the world, whether they are big picture or detail, information led or emotionally led, optimist or pessimist ?  A working knowledge of NLP can help you to work out these and many other behavioural ‘meta-programs’ so that you can engage in a more effective way.  It can also help you to match your language to the way the recipient ‘codes’ information and memories so that they actually hear more of what you are saying and make an emotional connection.  Do you want to be heard and responded to, or just do more shouting ?

My new book on ‘NLP for Project Managers’ is out now via the BCS.  I spoke on NLP for effective communication in complex projects at BCS’s Spring School for Project Managers in March, but if you missed that one you can find more dates at: www.nlp4pm.com/talks.
